Copacabana is perhaps the world's most famous beach. With the iconic view of Sugar Loaf mountain and the wide expanse of 2.2 miles (4km) of white sand, the beach is a favorite of locals and millions of travelers each year.
Copacabana Beach offers a bit more than sand and sports-oriented activities. All you have to do is cross the street to explore the cafes, restaurants and nightclubs. Some of them are legendary, like Help Disco in Posto 5 and Boite Holiday - the only go-go bar in Rio with an ocean view. And then there are travel agencies, jewelers, car rental agencies, and excellent hotels. Take a day or two to explore all possibilities.
From the beach, you can view the granite slabs that surround the entrance to the bay. A short walk will take you to one of the best shopping centers in Rio, as well as to many movie and play theatres, fashion and jewelry shops, and restaurants and nightclubs.
